If Rome was bombed like Gaza
This map was created by superimposing the map of the bombings in Gaza onto Iurmap’s map of Rome. The aim is to show, in an immediate and visual way, what it would mean to transpose the scale of Gaza — and the destruction caused by the bombings from 7 October 2023 to 16 September 2024 — onto an urban context that is familiar to us.
The inspiration comes from the work of Forensic Architecture and the project “A Cartography of Genocide”, which uses technological tools to recount conflicts by making the traces of violence visible through maps and interactive reconstructions.
Around the map, we have included some photographs by Palestinian photographer Ali Jadallah, which help to create an emotional bridge between the geographical data and the real lives that those data evoke.
